DCA 2026–27 Required Summer Reading
The purpose of the DCA Summer Reading Program is to encourage continued reading growth, prepare students for upcoming coursework, and extend learning beyond the school year. Summer reading also provides students with an opportunity to begin engaging with course standards, themes, and major texts before returning to campus.
Each English course has been assigned one required text for students to read over the summer. These texts have been intentionally selected to support instruction and allow teachers to launch meaningful discussions, projects, essays, and assessments when students return in August.
Summer reading is a required assignment for all students enrolled in English courses for the 2026–2027 school year. Students are expected to be prepared and will be graded on the summer reading during the first few weeks of school.

Additional Notes for AP Courses
AP courses may utilize summer reading texts that are already embedded within the yearly curriculum. Rather than adding additional coursework or units, teachers may adjust pacing and move existing units earlier in the school year to maximize instructional time and support AP preparation.
Students should expect summer reading texts to become part of regular classroom instruction, discussions, writing assignments, and assessments throughout the year.
